Like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis, New Yorkers and gem lovers around the globe have been patiently waiting for the grand unveiling of the new Allison & Roberto Mignone Halls of Gems and Minerals at The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). Replacing the Morgan Memorial Hall of Gems and the Harry Frank Guggenheim Hall, this new 11,000 square foot space not only is home to the treasures we have known and loved since the ’70s, but also includes new specimens such as two breathtaking amethyst geodes, a case dedicated to the minerals of NYC (including the “subway garnet”), and if that wasn’t reason enough to be excited, it also features a temporary exhibit, Beautiful Creatures, curated by one of our favorites, Marion Fasel! Based on her book Beautiful Creatures, the exhibit features animal-themed jewelry from Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Bulgari, Suzanne Belperron, Van Cleef & Arpels, and more! It is a visual feast and fun for those of any age!
