We had the incredible opportunity to tour the traditional jewellery collection at the Victoria & Albert Museum, guided by none other than Jane Perry, the brilliant curator behind the display.
November – NYC: Beyond Sight – Joy BC at Les Enluminures
NYC members spent the afternoon for a private viewing of the collaboration between @lesenluminures and @joy_bc. Beyond Sight is a beautiful melding of contemporary and medieval works.
November – London: The Craft Council’s Jewelry Collection
“We believe craft skills and knowledge enrich and uplift us as individuals and can change our world for the better”. With these words, Crafts Council Maker Trustee Melanie Eddy @mne_eddy began her fantastic evening for Gem X London, hosted at the Craft Council headquarters earlier this week.
November – NYC: A Salon Art + Design Debut
Last week, NYC members took a trip to the Park Avenue Armory for a VIP visit at the Salon Art & Design show @thesalonny With drinks in hand, we visited with american artist Michele Oka Doner @micheleokadoner at the Elisabetta Cipriani Gallery @elisabettaciprianiwearableart and Brazilian jeweler Fernando Jorge @fernandojorge.

We had the pleasure of spending a Sunday afternoon with TW McClelland @twmcclelland at Tamsen Z Gallery @tamsenz Overlooking Central Park, we previewed a curated selection of Tim’s latest work and collection Botanical Astronomy.
October – London: String My Pearls – A Pearl Stringing Workshop
Last week, as one of our members perfectly put it, “We learned an important life lesson.” On a beautiful afternoon in London, we gathered for a pearl stringing workshop with the talented Anja Moehler, @stringmypearls.
October – NYC: A Study in Verre Eglomisé with Miriam Ellner
We spent the morning with Miriam Ellner @miriamellner, learning about rare and precious crafts of Verre Eglomisé. It is the unique process of gliding precious metals on the reverse side of glass, etching in a design before setting it off with color – an art form with origins dating back to the 15th century.
October – London: Lyon & Turnbull Present ‘Precious’ By Helen Molesworth
Renowned jewelry historian, gemologist, and Senior Jewellery Curator at the V&A opened our private reading from her debut book, “Precious: The History and Mystery of Gems Across Time.” It set the stage for a dazzling evening of gemstone lore and storytelling here in London.

Friday night at the museum. Members in New York City were invited to the @metmuseum retrospective Collecting Inspiration: Edward C. Moore at Tiffany & Co, guided by exhibition curator Medill Higgins Harvey. September – LA: Celine Dussaud of De Vos X Thesis Gems
In sunny LA, we spent a sunday afternoon with Celine Dussaud of @de.vos and @thesisgems.We got an intimate viewing of the beautiful virtuoso of movement and light in Celine’s work.
September – London: Deakin & Francis Present the Signet Ring
Gem X London had a smart and sharp behind-the-scenes peek of all things cufflinks and signet rings with Deakin & Francis earlier this week. Specialists of their craft since 1796, Deakin & Francis are Britain’s finest purveyors of cufflinks, signet rings and gentlemans accessories, using the same Birmingham workshop as their 18th century founders to create their treasures.
September – NYC: Color Couture – Gems & Jewelry by Goshwara
Gem X NYC celebrated a feast of jewels with @goshwara. Over bubbly, we chatted about Sweta’s favorite stones to work with and expressed her love and care of materials through her designs.
September – London: Marcus McCallum’s Cabinet of Curiosities
Earlier this week, Gem X London members were treated to an evening of gem discovery with an evening at the office of Marcus McCallum FGA @mmccallumfga. An esteemed gemologist and gemstone specialist, Marcus established his business in London’s historical jewelry district of Hatton Garden in 1984, specialising in exquisite one-off gemstones and an exceptional portfolio of pearls.
July – NYC: Mended With Gold – A Kintsugi Jewelry Experience
On a hot summer’s day, we spent an evening in the coolness of @sorate.co Tea Room to learn about the art of Kintsugi, and its inspiration behind @milamorejewelry.
July – NYC: Ice Cold – A Hip Hop Jewellery Exhibition
In New York, we spent a day at the @amnh celebrating the ice-cold jewels of hip-hop 👑 Members entered the Melissa and Keith Meister Gallery for a tour of the hallmark oversized gold chains of 1980s rappers to the diamond-smattered custom orders sported by musicians-turned-business moguls.
June – London: The Jewels of the Treasure House Fair
As the sunshine and social season descended on London, so did the second hosting of the Treasure House Fair @treasurehousefair and Gem X London was there to seek out the jewels.
June – NYC: Gyan Jaipur at Bergdorf Goodman
In the private jewelry salon at @bergdorfs, members were enchanted with the joyful gems of @gyanjaipur. Inspired by the hues of Jaipur, we were delighted to talk with Akhil and Nikhil Dhaddha about the history and influences of their house.

A Sunday excursion to the @newarkmuseumart Since its founding in 1909, the museum has sought out unique jewelry to complement its globally-influenced collections and exhibitions and in turn, to celebrate the visions of international design perspectives.

June – London: Carving an Art Jewel with Charlotte de Syllas
Who doesn’t love a behind-the-scenes-access of a world class art museum? Gem X certainly does and members in London were treated to just that this week. Hosted at the Victorian and Albert Museum, members met with master gem carver Charlotte de Syllas and Clare Phillips, V&A Curator of the Department of Decorative Art and Sculpture, to see Charlotte’s masterpiece, the Magpie Necklace
June – NYC: The Kaleidoscopic Eye of Sonia Delaunay
In June, Gem X Members took an after hours trip to the @bardgradcenter for a double feature of the work of Sonia Delaunay and jeweler @kiaschwan The “Living Art” exhibition showcased a retrospective of Delaunay’s work and its celebration of the primacy of color and medium synthesis.
