A mini Masterclass that was most certainly not “mini” on the jewel front. BVLGARI graciously opened its 5th Avenue doors for an intimate lecture on the history and design philosophy of the brand. Led by Private Client Manager, Deidre Guillory, and Art Historian, Beatrice Del Favero, we learned about the profound ties between BVLGARI and its Roman heritage and a look into the inspirations behind the beautiful city that are reflected in the designs of the jewels. Full of this newfound appreciation and glass of champagne in hand, members were able to take an up close look at a few notable necklaces, classic Serpenti bracelets and watches, and a few ancient Monete motifs. A huge thank you to Deidre and Beatrice! It was a beautiful way to kick off the weekend
The majesty and mystery of jadeite was revealed to a group of Gem X Core, Patron & Unlimited Londoners last week, in a spellbinding masterclass hosted by Asprey – and we all left entranced.
Over a champagne reception, director Bobby Gill took our group through Asprey’s unique relationship with jadeite, explaining its unique gemmological composition, intense colour ways (who knew jadeite could be red) – and storied history and relationships with South East Asian cultures. From perfectly carved translucent bangles, rings and bead necklaces to a pure jadeite abacus and an astonishing piece of jadeite rough, viewing and handling the jewels was a treat for the senses. A heart-felt thank you to the Asprey team for hosting us and for sharing their magnificent knowledge and collection.
An action packed day trip. In an absolute whirlwind, Gem X members spent a Saturday in Philly at The Philadelphia Show exploring the fine art, jewelry, furniture, silver, ceramics, and decorative objects of more than forty dealers. We made special stops to Rosior and James Robinson, to handle antique, vintage and extraordinary Portuguese art jewels. Members were also able to peruse the halls and collections of the Philadelphia Museum or Art, where the show was hosted. After our walk through the show, we were invited to a special studio visit to see designer, Anthony Lent. His wondrous array of jewels, tools, and tiny treasures were an absolute treat to see up close. His whimsy and meticulous craftsmanship never fails to bring joy and spark inspiration.

This year a small group of Gem X’ers made their way to South America for a week of jewelry and gems. Members touched down Sao Paolo, for a few days of mineral searching followed by a trip to Rio and trip to the Cruziero Mine.

Our group was invited to visit to spend the day with Silvia Furmanovich at her gorgeous studio. The space was filled from floor to ceiling with works and inspiration. Members modeled some of their favorite jewels and were taken step by step of the work it takes to create these stunning pieces.

The Gem X team took a trip to the Cruziero Mine for a prosperous gem hunt. After a hopping off the plane and grabbing a quick cup of coffee in the hanger, the crew made their way to mine for an unforgettable experience. With their hard hats on, everyone trekked through the mine and struck Tourmalines. A lucky few were even able to extract gems out with a pickaxe.
It was a once in a lifetime trip, and we are excited to search for more magic at our next grand excursion!
