In New York City, members came together for an evening of artistry at A La Vieille Russie. In the midtown showroom, we gathered around the illustrations of René Lalique and were led through an elaborate history of the designer by expert Mark Waller. The collection of drawings were produced between 1894-1910, and were presented to Lalique’s clients. The to scale drawings made it easy to fantasize how these pieces were created and adorned. The designs were complemented by a selection of Lalique jewelry. The stars (signs) were out for a night in NYC, for a member mixer at the elegant Bar Bastion. Members were encouraged to wear their most out of this world zodiac jewels and establish cosmic connections. Over cocktails with friends old and new, members bonded over their celestial-inspired jewelry showing off their star signs pendants, crescent moon brooches, and sparkly star earrings. It was an enchanting affair and we look forward to catching up with everyone again soon.
For our first social event of the year, the London chapter gathered in a pub in Farringdon – a stone’s throw from the jewellery district of Hatton Garden – for a New Year, New Friends Mixer. Members were assigned a jewellery category to wear for the evening and share stories about their pieces with other members. It was a wonderfully warm and cosy evening of friendship and bonding over jewels, shielding from the typical London weather! We also had the introduction of our new club notebook, designed and executed by our own London Core member, Cora Sheibani. A beautiful gold-print rendering of our logo in reverse, with a geometric background.
This past weekend we took a break from the snow and made our way down to Palm Beach to view the Freemans Auction jewelry sale. We spent the morning with April Matteini, Associate Director & Senior Jewelry & Watch Specialist, with a private tour of the collection before the gallery opened to the public. Some of our favorite pieces included a delightful floral brooch, a playful floral vase brooch by Luz Camino, and a diamond necklace that reminded us of a heart beat

We shared a wonderful conversation with two leading industry figures to explore the majesty of Lalique’s work. Adam Patrick, Managing Director of A La Vieille Russie, and Mark Waller, collector and former Lalique dealer, took us through 38 of Lalique’s drawings and some accompanying jewels that were on view at A La Vieille Russie.
THE DRAWINGS OF RENÉ LALIQUE

We all know that behind every dazzling jewel, lies a good story or perhaps a mystery. M.J. Rose’s novel, The Last Tiara, was inspired by a Romanov tiara that has been missing since 1922. This jewelry mystery was the jumping-off point for a fun and far-reaching conversation between M.J. Rose and Marion Fasel, two of our favorite authors and jewelry experts. They covered the meaning of royal tiaras as well as the fascinating tiara designs made by the likes of Lalique, Cartier, and Calder among others.
