
June – London: Carving an Art Jewel with Charlotte de Syllas
Who doesn’t love a behind-the-scenes-access of a world class art museum? Gem X certainly does and members in London were treated to just that this week. Hosted at the Victorian and Albert Museum, members met with master gem carver Charlotte de Syllas and Clare Phillips, V&A Curator of the Department of Decorative Art and Sculpture, to see Charlotte’s masterpiece, the Magpie Necklace

June – NYC: The Kaleidoscopic Eye of Sonia Delaunay
In June, Gem X Members took an after hours trip to the @bardgradcenter for a double feature of the work of Sonia Delaunay and jeweler @kiaschwan The “Living Art” exhibition showcased a retrospective of Delaunay’s work and its celebration of the primacy of color and medium synthesis.

June – London: Meet Your Gem Match with Doris Hangartner
Gem X London had a spellbinding gem encounter earlier this week, hosted by jeweller, gemologist and gem-matching expert Doris Hangartner.

May – Excursion: Boston – The Gems of the Boston Jewelry Exchange
After a busy day at the @mfaboston, Gem X members left feeling inspired and went searching for stones to make our own creations. We popped into the Boston Jewelry Exchange Building to visit @bostongems and comb through trays of mystical looking moonstones, amethysts, and aquamarines.

On our final morning in Boston we took a trip to see what fantastical creations Michael Robinson of @davidmichaeljewels has been working on.

May – Excursion: Boston – Glass Flowers at Harvard Museum of Natural History
You can learn a lot of things from the flowers. Our next stop in the @harvardmuseum with a tour led by Carol Carlson, of the Ware Collection of Blaschka Glass Models of Plants, “Glass Flowers”.

Last week in Boston, we spent the day at the @mfaboston and had the privilege of being led through the newly opened “Beyond Brilliance” with @jewelcurator, the museum’s Rita J. Kaplan and Susan B. Kaplan Curator of Jewelry.

Our action packed Tuesday in Boston continued with a two part tour of @harvardmuseum. Led by @raque_alonso_perez, Curator of the Mineralogical and Geological Museum, we explored the countless rough, cut stones, and jewels on display in the gallery.

Our Gem X trip to Boston is officially over but we can’t help but reminisce. Our first stop on our itinerary was to the colorful Mobilia Gallery. Full of whimsy, members explored drawers of and vignettes of beautifully constructed pieces

After leaving “Beyond Brilliance” we stepped into “Dress Up”, an @mfaboston exhibition organized by @jewelcurator and @ms_theotyson exploring over 150 objects of identity and self-expression through jewelry, fashion, and photography.

May – NYC: Coming HOME with CADAR Jewelry
Coming “Home” to @cadardesigns jewelry. In the intimate Madison Avenue showroom, Gem X NYC members gathered to view CADAR’s latest collection titled “HOME”.

May – London: The Story of Jeremy May’s Book Jewels
Earlier this week, members in London were treated to an evening of jewelry storytelling – quite literally – with maker Jeremy May. Jeremy’s approach to design transforms the physical matter of the stories we love into relics that can be worn every day by creating jewelry and miniature sculptures from books.

May – NYC: The Craft of Wax Carving with Page Sargisson
Earlier this week NYC members took a trip to sunny Park Slope, Brooklyn for a wax carving demonstration with @pagesargissonjewelry.It was thrilling and inspiring to watch Page effortlessly create a wax carving of one of her signature 3 stone gemmy gem gemstone rings in real time.

May – NYC: Personal Mythologies with Castro Smith
Saturday night was spent surrounded by the magical creations of Castro Smith. Castro brought a feast of signet rings, objects, charms, and chains.

May – NYC: The Private Collection of Madeleine K. Albright
Gem X NYC Members were invited to a private preview of the former Secretary of State’s, Madeleine Albright, collection of pins and memorabilia that are up for auction at Freeman | Hindman’s New York.

April – London: Phenomenal Gemstones with Gem-A
School was back in session for Gem X London this week, as the chapter was hosted by The Gemmological Association of Great Britain for a lecture and workshop on light, optics and optical phenomena.

April – London: Draw Me A Jewel – A Gouache Masterclass
Members in London had the opportunity to learn the stunning craft of gouache painting with core member Inesa Kovalova.

April – NYC: Periods of Collecting with Doyle Auctions
A beautiful morning at Doyle Auctions. Gem X members in New York were treated to a private viewing of Doyle’s upcoming Fine and Important Jewelry Sale.

April – London: A Studio Visit with Emefa Cole & Benjamin Hawkins
Earlier this week, Gem X London gathered at the Goldsmith Centre for a double bill of jeweling discovery, featuring studio visits with Emefa Cole and Benjamin Hawkins.

March – NYC: A Day of Art Deco: Sotheby’s & Lempicka
Scenes from a Tamara de Lempicka themed double feature. The day began with a tour of ‘The World of Tamara: A Celebration of Lempicka and Art Deco’ selling exhibition at Sotheby’s, including Lempicka paintings, jewels like her own pieces, her dream Bugatti, and more Art Deco treasures.

March – London: Galactic Jewels with Jacqueline Cullen
A group of lucky members in London kicked off the Easter weekend with a truly galactic visit to the studio of Jacqueline Cullen in Cockpit Arts.
