May – London: Discovering Ethical Gemstones: A Conversation & Gem Viewing
Marco Polo once wrote that the best sapphires, topazes, amethysts and other gems of the world can be found in Sri Lanka. Last night’s event with ethical mining advocate and expert Stuart Poole was filled with many such gems, both those from mines and those learned from many years of experience in ethical mining.

March – NYC: Jewelry Through the Ages with Simon Teakle
Yesterday, a lucky group of NYC jewelry lovers stepped back in time for an evening of “Jewelry Through the Ages,” hosted by @simonteaklejewelry. Over cocktails and dinner in a private library, we heard Simon recount tales from his many jewelry adventures, over years spent at Christie’s jewels and now running his own gallery in Greenwich, CT.

February – LA: Sunday In The Bowers With Disney
Yesterday at the Bowers Museum, we fell under the magical spell of the Crown Jewels from the Walt Disney Archives. First greeted by an enormous 50th anniversary crown that sat aloft Sleeping Beauty’s Disneyland castle, our Gem X group gained behind-the-scenes insights on pivotal pieces like Cinderella’s (crystal) slippers and the Heart of the Ocean from the Titanic.

Melanie Georgacopoulos truly is the queen of pearls…a designer who consciously uses her incredible knowledge of pearls to push the boundaries of creativity and jewelry design. Gem X Londoners were lucky enough to have Melanie unveil her new M/G TASAKI collection at TASAKI’s Mayfair salon yesterday.

“Jewels are not just about carats and gold. To me a jewel is an objet d’emotion… I like to feel the person behind the jewellery.” We hung onto these thoughts shared by Valery Demure, who invited us inside her Marylebone boutique last evening in London.

February – NYC: A Date with Dior at the Brooklyn Museum
Exactly 75 years ago, on February 12th in Paris, Dior debuted his first collection and the revolutionary “New Look.” Today, Gem X visited the @brooklynmuseum to take a trip in the enchanting Dior time machine.

When we realized that the Tucson Gem Show coincided with the Lunar New Year, things got real. Cohosts Lin Jamison, Christine Cheng and Jean Noel Soni of Top Notch Faceting, planned a celebration to toast the year of the tiger under the Tucson moon.

A lucky few Gem X’ers in London were treated at the V&A Museum for a private tour of the Fabergé exhibition. We were spoiled with tales of royal lovers, champion racehorses, secret messages and diamond studded dinner parties.
