"A piece of jewelry is in a sense an object that is not complete in itself. Jewelry is a 'what is it?' until you relate it to the body"
Art Smith
Jewelry Designer, NYC (1917-82)
THE JEWEL:
Silver Earrings, circa 1970
MATERIALS:
- silver
FIT:
3 1/2 inches long
WHY WE LOVE IT:
- Born in Cuba, Art Smith forged avant-garde jewelry in his Greenwich Village studio from 1946 to the early 70s. He forged pieces from silver wires and metal pieces, producing jewelry that is dramatic, wearable and full of movement.
- Our dear friend, Simon Teakle, helped us source these iconic earrings made at the end of Art’s career. We love the combination of the linear top with the circular drops, for the ultimate form of wearable art.
