Boston Excursion: Glass Flowers at Harvard Museum of Natural History
Hosted by Carol Carlson of the Ware Collection of Blaschka Glass Models of Plants
You can learn a lot of things from the flowers. Our next stop in the @harvardmuseum with a tour led by Carol Carlson, of the Ware Collection of Blaschka Glass Models of Plants, “Glass Flowers”. The extraordinary collection was meticulously crafted by a father-son duo, Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka for the university as a teaching aid. Over a span of five decades the Blaschkas created a remarkable set of 4,300 glass models, representing 780 plant species with exquisite detail and accuracy. We were all in disbelief at how delicate and lifelike these sculptures were created. It was such a treat to view these “jewels” and learn the history of their journey to Boston!
