MAY 2024
Boston Excursion:' Beyond Brilliance' at Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Hosted by Rita J. Kaplan and Susan B. Kaplan Curator of Jewelry and Emily Stoehre, Curator of Jewelery at MFA Boston.
Last week in Boston, we spent the day at the @mfaboston and had the privilege of being led through the newly opened “Beyond Brilliance” with @jewelcurator, the museum’s Rita J. Kaplan and Susan B. Kaplan Curator of Jewelry.
Spanning 4000 years, the exhibition explores the profound messages conveyed by jewelry and its ability to represent the artistic and cultural spirit of its era. From ancient artifacts to contemporary creations, Emily presented a diverse range of pieces, providing a comprehensive survey of jewelry’s evolution and significance throughout history. We were astounded by the gold from ancient egypt, early 20th-century jewels by Marcus, Tiffany, and Lacloche Frères, the Boivin Starfish, modern works by Art Smith and Elsa Peretti, and the works of contemporary jewelers such as Wallace Chan, Bhagat and Hemmerle. An enormous thank you to Emily and her team for an unforgettable morning.
