Boston Excursion: Harvard Museum of Natural History
Hosted by Raquel Alonso Perze, Curator of the Mineral and Geological Museum at the Harvard Museum of Natural History
Our action packed Tuesday in Boston continued with a two part tour of @harvardmuseum. Led by @raque_alonso_perez, Curator of the Mineralogical and Geological Museum, we explored the countless rough, cut stones, and jewels on display in the gallery.
Raquel opened the cases on the exhibition floor to present the Art Deco Cartier Diamond Bandeau, a Peridot and Meteor Slab, chunky gold chains, carved egg specimens for us to hold and ogle. Tourmalines were also a huge topic of discussion as we fawned over the Hamlin Necklace. We weaved our way to the basement of the Museum to view the countless treasures in the archives. Members were able to compare gold nuggets, sift through opals, and view the journal kept for the Hamlin Necklace. Even with the lights in the basement going out, we made the most of our tour and viewed fluorescent gems under UV light. It was an unbelievable experience that made us feel like we were discovering these jewels ourselves. Thank you Raquel for an unforgettable tour!
